My problem is with you, not understanding the meaning behind our hair. The meaning behind our history and culture. Shaming and dehumanizing our ancestry, while cutting their beautiful hair. Do you not understand that there’s more to this than the eye can see. Our hair signifies our identity and background. The techniques behind our hairstyle passed between the elderly and children. I bet you didn't know that slaves used braids as a way to map out secret passages to deliver messages. They also stored seeds between the braids to eat. Bacon oil was used to moisturize their hair because that was the only way to shine their hair. Or the fact that they used a fork to comb their hair. Our hair holds the roots and passage in which we found faith. Do you not understand that this was Gods’ gift? We do not owe an explanation for the styling of our hair. You do not understand the hurt and pain that we’ve endured. The raft and pain of oppression.

So don't you dare mock us and wave your white flags. How dare you to make a mockery of our name but yet again, steal our culture and our way of life that you criticize. Then attempt to adopt it as your own. Our hair has messages that you will never understand.
